The VAAFA Fallen Heroes Scholarship Fund is established in remembrance of U.S. Armed Forces service members of Vietnamese descent who have given the ultimate sacrifice in defense of Freedom and Democracy for our great Nation. The Fund is intended to honor their service and selfless devotion to duty to preserve our way of life, liberty and our pursuit of happiness. The goal of this Fund is to support the scholarship recipients financially in their successful college studies while they actively promote the recognition and acknowledgement of these Fallen Heroes within their community.

 Eligibility Requirements

 1. Applicants must be enrolled full time or accepted into an accredited undergraduate college or university program.

 2. Applicants must be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident.

 3. Applicants must be of Vietnamese American or Vietnamese Amerisian descent.

 4. Applicants must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.

 5. Applicants must be actively involved in a community service organization.

 6. Applicants must agree to have their name and photo published in the news media or website as a recipient of the VAAFA Fallen Heroes Scholarship Fund.

 7. Previous VAAFA scholarship recipients are not eligible for this year scholarship.   

 8. 1of the 13 scholarships will be reserved for family members of VAAFA Board of Directors to apply for  

Application Requirements

 1. Submit a completed VAAFA Fallen Heroes Scholarship application via email to Josephine.nguyen@med.navy.mil or via mail to 11710 Old Georgetown Rd, #1215, North Bethesda, MD 20852.

 2. Submit one letter of recommendation from community service organization addressing the applicant’s community service leadership ability, contribution and involvement.

 3. Submit two letters of recommendation from academic teachers or professors addressing the applicant’s academic achievement and scholastic ability.

 4. Submit a copy of an acceptance or enrollment letter from an accredited undergraduate college or university.

 5. Submit an official college or high school transcript.

 6. Submit any other pertinent information.

 Awards

 Thirteen (13) $1,000 scholarships will be awarded.

Selection Process

 The VAAFA Fallen Heroes Scholarship Fund will be administered by VAAFA’s Public Relations Committee.  Selection of recipients will be decided by a special VAAFA Scholarship Selection Committee.

Payment of Award

 Scholarship recipients will be notified by VAAFA Scholarship Selection Committee with instructions on scholarship disbursement.

Responsibilities

 1. Applicants shall ensure that they have read, understand, and accept all application requirements.

 2. Applicants shall ensure that they submit a complete and accurate application before the 1 June 2014 deadline.
